quilts...............................AND......

1st up....Robyn made this quilt as a gift for a family member who has a grey and black lounge with a touch of red and thought she might like this for the back of the sofa....simple but effective design.

Using my favo threads...polyneon by Maderia I stippled the background and did swirls on the red 'pinwheels'.

Jacki's Nine Patch ,this is a Thimbleberry design but the nine patches were made by 12 different people as part of our Round Robin group we did a nine patch swap as well as our Round Robin project.I got such a kick out of quilting this as each nine patch made me think: "oh Kerry made this one, & oh, Janis made this one!"

here  and here you will see more.

Jacki wanted simple straight line stitching and crosshatching.

This is a BOM exclusive to The Country Yard using Stof fabrics.
If you love these colours and enjoy simple piecing and applique then sign up for this cute (54" x54") BOM today!

Can you guess what threads I used??????

If you guessed Maderia Poly neons, you are wrong!

I used Signature variegated threads about 7 different ones and Mettler Metrosene.

AND.....last , but certainly not least, a big thank you to my customers, new and returning.I really do appreciate the chance to finish your quilt top ready for you to continue enjoying for many years.

Latest talking book finished: "The Leaving of Liverpool" ~ a story of two sisters tragically separated ~ the story of their very different lives......

Happy Birthday to me!!!

I haven't blogged for a wee while, I've been busy quilting (more on that later) and off to our annual retreat where I was completely suprised when at morning tea was seated (probably a good thing!) to a cake heading my way and the tunes of "Happy Birthday"........

If that wasn't enough of a suprise I was given this beautiful quilt.
Apparently nearly a year in the planning, secrets and probably a few tall tales!

This quilt was my birthday present made with care and love by my quilting friends.

Such a wonderful treasured gift. Each bag has the makers personality shinning through, and personal hand written messages.

Quilting was done by Sandy Mayo in Auckland, if you are out there Sandy, thank you!

The batting was a woolen blanket and a pieced back,my instructions were to keep this quilt soft.

 As quoted by Cat:
The fabric was a mixture of (blues and pinks) Tanya Wheelan - (green) Amy Butler - (red dot) Spotlight bargain!! !! !!

Beach balls, logs and talking books?

Please click on photos for a clear view.

What a fun quilt, made by Raewyn for a boy I'm guessing, not sure who it is for.

Out with my trusty Madeira Polyneon threads, straight line stitching on the green, which I realised later looked like farrows in the field.
Looping swirls on the red.Stipple using invisible thread on vehicle blocks .
Mettler poly variegated was used for the loops on the border.

Another fun quilt from Raewyn, called 'Beach Balls'

Keeping in mind the name of this quilt: "Beach Balls" I wanted to quilt the 'balls' so they looked like balls and the background to look like water and/or wind.
The border wanted to be waves.......
Yes my favourite threads used again.

Here is the back of the quilt.

While I was quilting these 2 quilts I was listening to a talking book called : The Island. I really enjoy listening to these talking books while quilting, it helps to get me in the 'groove' of quilting.
Anyone else listen to talking books?
